The Route: An easy, short but sweet ride with a pot of gold at the end ofthe rainbow. (Hint: bring your fly rod!)This is an excellent route for families, picknickers or novice mountain bikers.Directions: Drive from the Brian Head TownHall, turn right (or south on State Highway 143
for five miles, turn left continuing on State Highway 143 for exactly five miles to a cinderedroad that goes to the right and park here.Ride down the cindered road over the Mammoth Creek bridge. Stay on the main traveledroad as there are many old logging roadsthat come into the main road. At 1.9 miles, an old jeep trail goes to the left (or east). Followthis old jeep trail until the trail descends intoJohn L. Flat, a meadow and bog area. The trail will go into the woods where it willcome to a “T” intersection. Turn right and followthe short jeep trail to Dead Lake. The lake has excellent fishing in the fall, and is a quietplace to relax. Follow the same route out foryour return trip.
