The XTERRA Trail Running Series Returns to Utah! May 11, 2007 - Salt Lake City, UT After much success in 2006, the XTERRA National Trail Running Series returns to Utah - this time teaming up with Striders Running Shop to bring four incredible off-road adventures for runners of all ages and skill levels. The XTERRA Bonneville Basher Trail Run on Saturday, June 2nd will set the pace as the kick-off event for the 2007 season. The "Basher" is a 12K race that begins at the Dee Events Center on the Weber State University campus, which is nestled in the foothills of Ogden, Utah. At 7:00 AM runners will toe the start line and head towards the Bonneville Shoreline trailhead. Once on the trail, competitors climb for the next mile to the upper Shoreline trail, which looms over a valley once filled by prehistoric Lake Bonneville. At 5,200 feet in elevation, the Bonneville Shoreline is where the lake's beach met the edge of the Wasatch Front, creating an amazing 200-mile shelf -- a trail runners dream! The next 2.5 miles rolls along the Shoreline trail with spectacular views of Ogden City and all its neighbors to the north and south. The Great Salt Lake dominates the western horizon; it is the last remnant of Lake Bonneville, and the 4th largest terminal lake (no outlet) in the world. Because the events are formatted inside the XTERRA Trail Running Championship Series, the races present an excellent opportunity for runners of all abilities. For competitive racers, the quest continues to earn points for qualification in the XTERRA National Trail Running Championships in Lake Tahoe, NV this September. For the beginners, trail running is a great way to get active outdoors, meet new friends and experience the beauty of the woods. But watch your step, XTERRA infamous for setting up trails in beautiful but precarious places -- it's called the Bonneville Basher for good reason; one bad move and you're in the brush for a head-over-heals tour of the Wasatch Front. XTERRA trail running races aim to get people away from the monotony of running on a treadmill, away from inhaling the exhaust of car fumes and back to the serenity of nature. The Bonneville Basher and all of the XTERRA Utah series events will prove to be epic journeys you do not want to miss and definitive of what XTERRA is all about.
